Much of the foothills and the mountain edges of the valley are off-limits, the same dry slopes crews keep getting called to. Sandy crews knock down a brush fire from a sparking power pole
A grass fire near Sandy forced temporary evacuations this week after sparks from a power pole caught the dry brush. Crews got it under control and folks were able to return home. It is a small story with a big lesson for the whole valley: the hillsides are tinder right now, and it does not take much.

The District North apartments file for permits in the Hardware District
A big apartment project called District North has filed for building permits in the Hardware District, the fast-changing pocket northwest of downtown along the old industrial blocks. A coffee shop on the west side near Poplar Grove is set to be torn down to make room for new affordable housing units.
