Down south, Draper Days is in full swing at Draper City Park with a carnival, food, and nightly fun. And Real Salt Lake takes on England's Burnley FC at America First Field. Here is what is worth your time this week.

Rainbow Kitten Surprise with Spacey Jane, The Great Saltair

The North Carolina band brings their bones tour to The Great Saltair tonight, that big outdoor stage right on the shore of the Great Salt Lake out past Magna. Spacey Jane opens. This is one of those shows where the light does half the work: the sun drops behind the Oquirrhs, the water goes pink, and a room full of people sings back every word.
๐Ÿ•Hours: Wednesday, July 15, 2026, doors in the early evening
๐Ÿ“Address: The Great Saltair, 12408 W Saltair Dr, Magna ยท About 20 minutes west of downtown Salt Lake City
๐Ÿ’ตCost: Ticketed
โฐTiming: Saltair sits about 20 minutes west of downtown off I-80 with a big dirt lot, so there is room to park, but the drive back can bottleneck when the show lets out. Bring a layer. The wind off the lake picks up after dark.
Our take
A lake breeze, a big singalong crowd, and one of the prettiest natural backdrops any Utah venue has. Get there before sunset and let the light do its thing.
โš ๏ธ Heads up: The same tour also has a listing at Sandy Amphitheater for this date, so double-check your ticket for the correct venue before you drive out to Magna. Confirm doors and set times on the ticket page.

Batista, South Salt Lake

This South Salt Lake spot has been cooking up Cuban food for five years now, and it has earned a loyal crowd. Think slow-cooked meats, bright citrus, and that home-kitchen feel you do not get everywhere. Order the ropa vieja, the shredded beef stewed in tomato and peppers that Cuban kitchens are known for, and pair it with sweet plantains.

Brighton Lakes: Mary, Martha, Catherine, Big Cottonwood Canyon

A moderate 4.6-mile out-and-back that starts at the Brighton lodge and strings together a set of alpine lakes. You climb past Lake Mary, Lake Martha, and up to Lake Catherine, with big granite peaks all around. This is prime alpine country and the wildflowers should be showing this time of year.
๐Ÿ•Hours: Summer, snow-free
๐Ÿ“Address: Brighton Resort lodge, top of Big Cottonwood Canyon ยท About 40 minutes from downtown Salt Lake City
๐Ÿ’ตCost: Free
โฐTiming: Start at the Brighton lodge at the top of Big Cottonwood Canyon, about 40 minutes from downtown. Go early: the lot fills and the afternoon storms roll in during monsoon season.
Our take
The easiest way to feel like you drove deep into the mountains without the long haul. A string of lakes in under 5 miles is hard to beat.
โš ๏ธ Heads up: This is protected watershed, so no dogs and no swimming, and the trail is not accessible in winter. Watch the sky for afternoon monsoon storms and turn back if thunder builds.

Busy wildfire season stretches crews across the West

Utah's fire season is running hard this summer, and crews are spread thin as fires pop up across the state and the wider West. The Buck Basin Fire alone grew to around 230 acres and pulled in nearly 150 personnel. It is a good reminder to check conditions before you head into the mountains.

Monsoon storms raise flash flood risk on burn scars

Summer monsoon storms are rolling through, and that means flash flood danger near Utah's recent burn scars. Ground that lost its plants to fire cannot soak up a fast, heavy rain, so water runs off quick. If you are hiking slot canyons or narrow washes this week, watch the sky and the forecast.
