Kilby Court

πŸ“ Salt Lake City (Granary District)
All-ages shows and up-and-coming bands

Kilby Court bills itself as the longest-running all-ages venue in Salt Lake City. It is a tiny space down a small street off 700 South, and plenty of bands played it before they got big.

Tip: Shows are cheap and small, so tickets for the popular ones go fast.
2

Urban Lounge

πŸ“ Salt Lake City (500 East)
Indie and electronic shows in a small club

A small club on 500 East that books indie, rock and electronic acts most nights of the week. It is a standing room where you can get close to the stage.

Tip: Check the age rule. Many shows here are 21 and over.
3

The State Room

πŸ“ Salt Lake City (Downtown)
A seated show where people listen

The State Room is an intimate concert hall known for singer-songwriters, folk and roots acts. People come to listen, which makes it a good date-night room.

Tip: Get there early for the best seats.
4

The Depot

πŸ“ Salt Lake City (The Gateway)
Touring acts in a mid-size club

The Depot, at 13 North 400 West in the historic Union Pacific depot building, books touring bands, tribute nights and a long-running New Year's Eve masquerade.

Tip: It is steps from the North Temple and Gateway TRAX stops.
5

Metro Music Hall

πŸ“ Salt Lake City (west of downtown)
Rock, punk and metal shows

A mid-size club west of downtown that keeps a steady calendar of rock, punk, metal and dance nights.

Tip: Check the age rule before you bring teenagers.
6

Abravanel Hall

πŸ“ Downtown Salt Lake City
The Utah Symphony and holiday concerts

Home of the Utah Symphony, the hall hosts classical programs, film-with-orchestra nights and a full slate of holiday concerts in December, including the Messiah Sing-In.

Tip: Rush and student tickets are worth asking about.
7

Eccles Theater

πŸ“ Downtown Salt Lake City
Big touring shows and holiday concerts

The Eccles hosts Broadway tours plus concerts and comedy. December brings a run of Christmas shows.

Tip: Main Street restaurants are steps away for dinner before the show.
8

Delta Center

πŸ“ Downtown Salt Lake City
Arena concerts

The downtown arena, home of the Utah Jazz and the Utah Mammoth, hosts the biggest touring concerts that come through Salt Lake.

Tip: Take TRAX. The Arena station is right outside.
πŸ“
Local note: Most of these venues are on or near TRAX. Leave the car at home on a big show night.

How to pick the right one

Start with the size of the room. Kilby Court and Urban Lounge are small and close to the stage, where you see bands on their way up. The State Room is a seated listening room. The Depot and Metro Music Hall are mid-size clubs where touring acts land. Abravanel Hall and the Eccles Theater are the big seated halls, and the Delta Center is the arena.

Most of the clubs are downtown or just west of it, close to TRAX and FrontRunner. Many shows are 21 and over, so check the age rule before you buy, especially with teenagers. Kilby Court is the exception: it has been all ages for years.
